Man eventually WON!

And it only took him two weeks to work up to it.

Chicken fried steak for breakfast.

Who would live in a house like this?

Clue - the area has in the past been a hotspot for run by fruitings.

Each day they clean the tanks. When they do this the man in the tank also does a talk and you can ask him questions!

You can also hear the answers if you don't have a distressed child wailing for a mother who thinks a 'talk' is another word for a free creche and has had a wander off.

But is was really cool to see the guy in the tank anyways.

The view from the bay

We had vague plans to do the Alcatraz tour at some point. Not going to happen. The next available tour is on the 21st.

So instead we took a bay cruise, which turned out to be an excellent choice.

What is it? - Revealed

They did something to something and now we both eat steak.

Dsc_0282

This is called a country fried steak.  If is breaded and fried and served with sausage gravy on top.

It.  Was.  Incredible.

And yet again we managed to come here on a Monday when it's closed!

Still very beautiful in the sun though, eh?

I have a canvas at home primed with grey. It's been like that for months and taunts me when I pass it.

Turns out it was finished all along, according to this work of art seen in SF MOMA yesterday.

A prize for the person who guesses correctly.

I'll reveal the truth late tomorrow night.

Notable characters #3

Dsc_0159

A short gallery of characters named mostly for their attire.

Kiss army - wearing a band t shirt, he was seen at every smoke stop not smoking,  but staring at our cabin.

Wolfmoon - t shirts can say a lot about people,  can't they? His said he liked wolves. And the moon.

Wispy man and his magic pants - a know all who was sat next to us at Union Station enjoying telling everyone how he once had a twelve hour delay that started just like the one we had at that moment. He also told the world that toothbrushes were invented in Arkansas. He was a dick. We saw him later that night walking through the train wearing some pyjama pants with cartoon characters on them. He was 45.

Notable characters #1 - Miss Oliver

Dsc_0079

Have you ever heard a tannoy announcing the cafe car openingng by someone quoting Fleetwood Mac or saying 'peek a boo! I see you! '? If you have then you must have met Miss Oliver.  She is truly a jewel in Amtraks crown.

We went down to meet her.  We made an excuse and bought something,  but we did tell her how much we loved her announcements. She was very chuffed.

As we left Idaho we sat down for breakfast with Tom and Darlene from Columbus, Wisconsin. They were very sweet and were on their way to visit family in Seattle.

As I mentioned before, everyone was now judged by the standard set by David and Shirley.

They were not David and Shirley.

The Empire Builder has a special wine and cheese tasting event.  Then what is the picture all about?

Well,  this event was a chance to meet yet another couple of people.

David and Shirley are from Rockford, Illinois. We first met them some hours earlier as we told them about Miss Oliver (see memorable characters section). David accosted us at Minot station and asked if he could take a photo of us. We said yes as he explained he rarely met English people.

They were the most wonderful, interesting, delightful companions who kind of spoiled us for everyone afterwards. Even now we are kicking ourselves for not swapping emails or something before they got off at East Glacier early in the morning.

David is a retired Presbyterian pastor and he is the gentleman wearing the blue hat in the middle of the picture.

If you know anyone in Rockford who might know them, aim them at this blog!

Wisconsin Dells shone with neon outside the window as we sat for dinner with Michelle and her daughter Carolyn, from Wisconsin. They were on their way to a retreat in the mountains of Washington above Wenatchee. They were lovely companions and easy to talk to.

A Stationary Sleep

Dsc_0254

And something fizzy for my birthday.

It's 2:26pm here and after a long wander around town waiting for the room to be ready I'm knackered and will be treating myself to a birthday nap. Later there will be cake and food and beer, but not yet.

Thank you for all your birthday wishes, texts, fb messages and from three very special people a VIDEO!

Love,

Downtown Seattle from the Space Needle

Going up?

Dsc_0191

The wait was about twenty minutes or so to get up there, but the line continued to move and the view from the top was worth it.

The view from the rooftop...

Is incredible. Not only is the Space Needle on the next block,  but if you look to the right,  in the distance is the snow capped beauty of Mt. Rainer.

Crab Pot part 2

Dsc_0177

Before and after.

Food did not win - WE WERE VICTORIOUS! And quite full. Pete can even deshell crab now. The snow crab was incredible and I would have just a bucket of that if I went back.

Seattle knows how to reach my heart

Obviously through my stomach. Crab Pot is a touristy restaurant where queues can be long if you insist on waiting for a table outside. We didn't have to wait and our serverw Lee, was right over for our order. We chose the Westport (see menu) and the game was on...
